Marble requires a diamond-tipped drill bit, constant cooling, and a 45-degree entry angle to start the hole. Standard drill bits create micro-fractures that split the stone. One mistake on a $15,000 marble fireplace surround is a very expensive lesson.

What Made This Particular Installation Complex

Rose marble is non-uniform — The pink veining pattern in this marble indicates iron oxide inclusions that create soft spots. Drill bit pressure must be reduced when crossing vein lines to prevent fracture propagation along the mineral boundary.

Two separate mounts, one wall — The TV mount plate and the Sonos Arc mount are independent systems. Both must be level relative to each other and to the floor, with the 4-inch gap maintained precisely. A 1° difference in level between the two is visible at viewing distance.

Active Heatilator below — We ran a heat soak test with the fireplace at operating temperature before finalizing mount height. Soundbar position was adjusted 1.5 inches higher than the initial plan after the heat reading exceeded comfortable operating range at the original position.

Cable concealment in marble — HDMI, optical audio, and power runs are fully concealed. Routing through marble required core drilling at entry and exit points, with flexible conduit in the wall cavity. No cable is visible from any viewing angle in the room.
